No, you do not need to be a gel printer. But you will need collage papers. There are lots of wonderful ways to create collage papers, both with and without a gel plate. Please see my answer to: 'Do I need to have collaging papers already'

There are many surfaces suitable for collaging on. In this course I use a sketchbook with mixed media paper.
